the eosumun gate is a small gate that leads to the juhamnu pavilion which is a 2-story structure. the 1st floor is the royal library and the 2nd floor is a reading room. the buyongji pond is right outside the gate. bulloman gate (gate of long life) is formed by a single rock located inside the secret garden you will reach the aeryeonji pond after passing through the bulloman gate. the aeryeonjeong pavilion (love of lotus pavilion) is a square shape pavilion located on the edge of the aeryeonji pond.


Changgyeonggung Palace

Changgyeonggung Palace, people who walks through it is blessed with long life and good health. the king was the only person allowed to walk through it. the gwanramjeong pavilion resembles a folding fan is next to the bandoji pond. jondeokjeong is a hexagonal pavilion and unique for its “double layered roof”. the tablet with king jeongjo’s writing is hung inside. cheonguijeong is the only pavilion with a thatch roof that sits in front of a small rice paddy.

this symbolizes the kings commitment to farming and recognized the hard work and efforts from the farmers. ongnyucheon is a brook in the southern back garden. the king carved a poem on the soyoam rock that reads: a waterfall in three hundred feet,it falls at the highest heavens,white rainbow appeared when i see it,every valley is filled with thunders. after passing through jangrahkmun, the main gate - you will find yourself at yeongyeongdang residence. it was a place where special ceremonies were held. during these ceremonies court officials will present food and wine to the king and queen. it was also a men’s quarter, where the master of the house lived. across from yeongyeongdang residence is seonhyangjae. it is a study and also a place where guest were greeted. this is a 750 year old chinese juniper tree, it is one of the oldest tree in korea. if you look closely you can see faces of 4 different kinds of animals.
